Fast shutdown S.o Windows PDF Print E-mail

Often when we use Windows Xp or Vista, we wait a lot of time for shutdown the computer,

especially if we use old computers that are slowest than new computers.

This trick is useful for the people that have a slow computer, infact you will have a fast shutdown if you modify the registry key just as a specialist.


Start -> Run
write into

regedit

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control

In the right we find the value

WaitToKillServiceTimeout.

You see now the value

20000 (that is 20 seconds).

This is the time that Windows gives at all your programs before shutdown.

We change the time in

15000( 15 sec.) or 10000 ( 10 sec)

for a best configuration.

Thanks, very informative, the big question is if 10 sec is enough for the computer to finish all the task he needs, cause the shutting down in the middle of read or write to the HD or memory can be devastative.

Although this could speed up shutdowns in the short term, it could lead to corruption in the long-term, if programs and services are being forced to quit while trying to save data. This method is much better than just hardbooting the machine ie "holding the power button down" though.
